The Monsters went 5/6 on the powerplay and scored 6 goals in the game, too bad they still lost. The Monsters fell 8-6 to Grand Rapids in the first meeting of the season. The Monsters struck early with two straight powerplay goals to light the lamp early. In the second the Griffins scored 4 in a row to make it 4-2. The Monsters would later on score 3 in a row to take a 5-4 lead. The Griffins, however, did not give up and fought to tie the game with under one minute to go in the second period. In the third, Durno gave the Monsters the lead nearly midway through. Towards the end of the period Grand Rapids would tie the score, take the lead, and cap it off with an empty net goal to win 8-6.
